FEEL OTHERS STRUGGLE

I’m pretty much done with the endless anger (and insecurity) on display about EVERYTHING in our present lives. I feel like someone whose neighbors on all four walls never stop fighting. I think it’s important to also feel beyond one’s self. This brief moment from my youth makes up a big part of my personal foundation. My hope when I agreed to share stories with military.com was to be funny and positive. I hope this latest one touches on a bit of both while slipping in a nice message as well. Enjoy your holiday season my friends. PJ

THANKFUL FOR SILENT PROTECTORS: My Country Music Convoy Through Iraq

The latest Episode of the Comic Relief series I do for Military.com was just posted. I want to share “the story behind the story” on this one. I feel it’s fitting today because I’m very thankful for it.

The soldier in this story, Micah, isn’t just a friend, a veteran, a Airman, a PTSD fighter/survivor, and a hero, he is someone who I know for a FACT saved my life. I am here able to write these words right now because of his selfless actions. And I know he gives it very little thought, because it’s just how he’s built.

I often say my favorite audience member is someone I got to entertain overseas in a war zone now back home safe sitting, laughing, blended in amongst the rest. Think about that for a second. When you go to a concert, attend church, support your children’s school function and so on… You may be sitting next to a man or woman much like my friend Micah, silent protectors shouldering life’s often-harsh realities.

Micah In The Middle

It was an eight-hour (give or take) convoy through Iraq in 2005, hot, tense, funny & very real. Fellow comedian Reno Collier and I stared out the windows taking in rare visions and listening to extremely sad country music. Once outside our humvee when we arrived safely in Kuwait, we could see the cracked window from the small arms fire we took on our trip. Micah said “soooo… you’re not supposed to see that… yeah… that was fun.” Nervous laughter followed by all.

How do you thank someone who saved your life? Including someone in a story is my way of showing how grateful I am for them. When asked, “what’s your comedy about?” my reply is “family, friends and life experiences,” all of which mean the world to me.

This is just one person, one example, one story about the type of person we need to be very thankful for: selfless heroes.

The story in this video below is pretty damn funny. Enjoy!

G.I. Jokes: From Combat Zone To Comedy Zone

The All Warrior Network created a short documentary about U.S. Army Veteran and now comedian Justin Wood’s inspirational story. I got to play a small part in his journey. Our friendship and Veteran loyalty is captured extremely well. It’s a positive, funny & heartfelt story. You can’t ask for much more than that. Enjoy!

THE GREAT WALSH SIBLING CHRISTMAS PLATE DEBATE:

Please Vote, Sound Off & We’ll Accept A Gallery Showing
EVERY YEAR my family gets together for the holiday and at some point fight like caged animals over who REALLY has the best Christmas plate made in kindergarten. THIS IS SERIOUS BUISNESS! – Is it Colleen the oldest with her *Pissed Off Purple Pilgrim Sweeping Snowman with a Chain-link Tree & Urineballs. Or Tara the 2nd oldest and her *Carrot Rocket-ship House Rained on by Pretzels & Smaller Urineballs. Possibly Patrick the only boy and loved the most by their Mommy and Daddy for considerately including them in his *Dyslexic Werry Chr i Stma s 1978 Pretty Damn AMAZING Christmas Tree. Just maybe the baby Cathy with her *1984 Christmas Present Jenga Tree with Hearts, Blood Splatter, even smaller Unrinballs, a Red Something? and dare I say Witch flying around… Yes… A WITCH. Werry Chr i Stma s Everyone! Peej

Walsh Plates

The debate always ends when the next generation plate by my niece gets broken out. It’s a game ender with her “2007 Mary Of Nazareth Tossing A Caterpillar Baby Jesus Over The Manger While The Sun Beams Down”. GAME OVER! Winner Briggy!

Best Plate!

WELL WELL… after all the votes… turns out the winner is (Drum Roll)…. PATRICK! Patricks plate was so popular in 1978 is spawned “imitations”. Like Rich Scampoli’s valid attempt to capture the awesomeness of his classmate’s tree while sitting next to him in art because his last name ended in a “W” and his own “S”.  Although similar in style Ricky’s tree clearly would not match the sheer size and girth of the young Irishman Patrick’s. It also clearly lacked a couple presents to cradled underneath. You might ask… is this one long Penis & testacies joke 25 years in the making… you betcha! Coming in a very surprising second place is… The baby Cathy! The people embraced Cak, Cak’s Picasso all fall holiday plate! Colleen’s Purple plate held the 3rd place spot. Overconfident like the Russian Ivan Drago is Rocky V it fell from grace. Taking in the last spot is Tara who God bestowed 4 boys in response to creating a carrot house. The people have spoken! They let the world know… they want a Werry Chr i Stma s! WINNER! PATRICK!
